A font that started as a revival, and ended up as a creative cultural interpretation. Initially as part of the Tāmaki Type Club workshop, taking a late 1800s American Wood Type specimen and digitising it... quickly allowed for a concept to be wrapped around it.

And so, Tekija was born. A homage to 1950’s Yugoslavia, and the glorious Yumex era mixing Mexican culture and Slavic bones.  Much like a lovechild between Yugoslavia and Mexico, this project brings together two high-alcohol worlds. Rakija and Tequila. Yumex, Tekija.

Making a type piñata? Purely optional.
